Well, what to say? Band has been a huge part of my life ever since I joined in sixth grade, finally reaching the pinnacle of time consumption in the past two years while a section leader. But despite the fact that I’ve spent what seems like a quadrillion (yes, it’s a number) hours in rehearsals, practice, and concerts, I’ve loved every minute of it. When I came here as a freshman, band wasn’t like anything I expected. Mainly, that’s because I had no idea what to expect. But I couldn’t have gotten a better experience out of the past four years. I’ve met friends I never would have without those countless hours, learned more about different styles of marching than I ever wanted to, and realized that even four hour long bus trips can be fun (I contemplated including a list of inside jokes here, but then they wouldn’t really be inside jokes, and therefore no longer funny).
Thanks to Mr. Meers and Mr. Aymett for everything they’ve done for us, Karl for teaching me how to rock, and all my friends for rocking with me. Next year I’ll be going to Vanderbilt for computer engineering, so I can’t say I’ll never be around. Thanks to my mom and dad for supporting me in everything I’ve done, and anyone else I might have forgotten (even people I don’t know yet).
Play loud and sleep hard always,
-Zachary (The Destroyer)
We just wanted you to know how very blessed we feel to have you as a son, and how lucky we think the world is to have you in it. Your hard work and dedication along with your many talents have shown us that you not only have what it takes to chase your dreams, but catch them and make them a reality. You should be very proud of all of your accomplishments; but always know that you are so much more than the sum of good grades and high test scores. Your generous spirit and kind nature make you such a fine young man. Your commitment to making a difference in the world is admirable, but remember that you have already touched so many with you compassionate and loving heart, not to mention your sense of humor. Remember to never stop learning, always find the humor especially in the difficult times, and always take the time to enjoy the music. You are a remarkable man who continues to amaze us each and every day.
You Make Us Proud.
Love,
Mom and Dad
